Data Notice

This notice explains how Connected Cars A/S (“we” or “us”) process your data associated to Connected Car’s connected products and related services in accordance with the EU Data Act (DA).

2 - Introduction

The EU Data Act (Regulation (EU) 2023/2854) is a legislative framework that regulates data processed from connected products and related services across the EU. The aim of this notice is to make data processing transparent and empower our users to access and exercise control over the data generated by our connected devices and related services.

3 - Our connected products

Our devices are considered as a “connected product” as defined in the EU Data Act. The devices vary in design and cover a variety of functionality and data collection options. As such, data that are stored on the device and subsequently transferred to the backend (cloud) and ultimately made available in our related services may differ. This can furthermore change depending on which brand, type and model of vehicle our device is installed in. Other parameters such as user preferences, configuration, activated functions, user behavior and interaction with the vehicle will impact the data processing.

Our devices allow for data to be generated continuously and in-real time, some of which will be processed on the device and otherwise in the backend platforms. These may vary from being third party provided cloud solutions to internal servers.

Connected Cars provide a range of related applications that interact with the connected products. They range from mobile applications to fleet platforms, that enable limited remote usage of certain functionalities and information about the vehicle(s) such as location status, battery life, fuel gage etc. Each data object will depend on which functionality options that have been enabled in the application.

Data that falls under the category of personal data as defined in Art. 4(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will only be processed on a legal basis in accordance with Art. 6 GDPR and/or related privacy legislation. Any use of non-personal data is solely based on the contractual agreement with the user pursuant to Art 4(13) DA. Connected Cars may use the data for their own purposes, for example to provide connected services, research and development of said services, statistics, product updates and future services. Data or information may be shared with third parties based on the legitimate interest of Connected Cars. Such purposes can entail, but are not limited to, collaborations with partners to advance and improve products and optimize user experiences.

5 - Your rights

The EU Data Act defines a selection of user types, each of which have specific rights and responsibilities for managing and accessing data. The different types of roles are defined below and will determine how you can interact and utilize generated data.

Private user

A private user is an individual who owns or have use rights for a vehicle or/and the services related to it.

Your options are the following:

  • Access your data
  • Request a copy of your historical data
  • Authorize transfer of your data to a third party

Business user

A business user is a legal entity that owns or have use rights for a vehicle or/and the services related to it.

Your options are the following:

  • Access and/or request data
  • Request facilitated data sharing with partners/providers

Third party

A third party is a legal entity that is granted access to data upon a user request.

Your options are the following:

  • Request data access

Government official

Government officials are public institutions and authorities that may request data access in cases of exceptional need.

Your options are the following:

  • Request data under exceptional circumstances

Data generated through our connected products and related services can be accessed and retrieved by contacting us through our applications or by contacting support@connectedcars.io. Please be advised that by contacting us outside of the application, we will need validation of your identity before being able to comply with your request to access and retrieve your data.

If you request your data to be shared with a third party, we kindly ask that the preferred data format and method of sharing is provided in the request. Please be advised that not all data formats or transfer options may be possible, as we are limited to the technical options we have available, which might differ from other providers.

Some data objects may be subject to being labeled trade secrets and can therefore be protected by certain safeguards. In such instances this will be made clear when accessing and retrieving data from our connected products and related services.
